Growth that lasts, through roots in humanity.

I offer fractional leadership in consumer marketing, to solve the human challenges of growth.

The success & failure of organizations, and certainly of marketing, rest squarely on people communicating well.

It’s the simplest possible statement — and yet, at the pace of business, marketing often slips out-of-sync with its partner teams, and out-of-touch with its consumers. I, Remy, built this fractional model so I could help organizations avoid this, by standing up marketing earlier, and integrating it better with every other department that drives growth.

Consumer Strategy

Rather than leading with particular outputs or skillsets, Smaller Apple builds your marketing suite toward an end state: attracting your full set of consumers.

This approach, “consumer strategy”, is the most powerful anchor for growth. By looking at your full audience holistically, your marketing can chart a path to a virtuous cycle of growth, building business immediately & equity over time.

Equally, your consumers’ needs are an excellent common language for collaboration. Marketing can & should work alongside every department as partners to grow the business, using the common goal of consumer value.

I can think broadly about what consumers need, because I’ve put it all into action before. Simply put, as a collective, we’re equipped with the full suite of skillsets in marketing & product innovation.

Rather than simply consulting, I’m embedded as the fractional lead for the capabilities you need, actually taking action everywhere that growth is possible. Think of me as your first hire for the marketing & other skills needed for start-up, and Smaller Apple as the growth engine behind me, building the marketing org you’ll need to build over time.

AN EFFECTIVE, VALUED APPROACH

“Remy approaches the work as a leader, with passion to problem-solve. He helped us bring the whole business together under a common, joint strategy, and built bridges where none had been before. This approach made a world of practical difference to building ours.”

- Jessica Padula, Vice President of Marketing & Head of Sustainability, Nespresso North America

Our Values

Critically, “roots in humanity” aren’t only intended to move consumers. Equally, how we all work together is the most direct & daily way that anyone involved with Smaller Apple can positively impact the work — not just as marketers & entrepreneurs, but as humans.

For me, your business growth is through, not incidental to, your people.

  • Collaboration

...even at the expense of: Time spent

Our commitment to collaboration is both a human one, and a highly practical one — it's the best way to leverage every resource you have.

We want marketing & its adjacent skillsets to power every team, every role up & down the ladder, and every person with unique perspective in an organization. On principle, this means taking time to listen. The effectiveness of our thinking is sharpened when we default to this, and to using the expertise of everyone we can through it.

  • Specificity

...even at the expense of: Ease

'Growth that lasts' requires intent and clarity. Even given the 'known unknowns' that come with any business, we want to be exact about what we see, and how we think is best to act.

Sometimes, that requires honesty, and full & vigorous discussions to reconcile points of view. Always, it takes effort for us to describe (and for you to read!) the full extent of a plan's impact across a business. In all of these cases, we think these efforts are more productive than miscommunications & split vision.

  • Going far

...even at the expense of: Going fast

“Move fast & break things” is often the spirit needed to, simply, get shit done. At the same time, it's not right-sized in moments when what you break is twice as hard to build back — most notably, trust, from consumers & coworkers alike.

We act with the conscientiousness & vision that lets teams pounce on opportunity together, nimbly & effectively. This approach is not just more pleasant, but more effective — when everyone in the boat rows in tandem, we can all cross farther distances.

  • Community

...even at the expense of: Autonomy

More than anything, we're responsible to the people around us. That's our consumers & coworkers, of course — importantly, it's also the city & neighborhoods we're part of, the diverse peoples we act in allyship with, and the many other nested collectives that we all belong to.

In other words, being 'responsible to people' must include individuals we've never met. We have full conviction that practicing this empathy benefits us all, in the context of the society businesses sit within.

A note from me, Remy

🍏

I founded Smaller Apple once I recognized two things — a need for humanity in marketing, and where my own fire for the industry springs from. At root, it’s making things for & with people that animates this work for me.

Both in practice and by definition, cultivating “roots in humanity” is a shared pursuit. So, if this mission & these values resonate with you, that alone makes me excited to chat, regardless of whether you have business that needs “us”. Please do reach out anytime!
